C.E Dimond - Author

Image
Winnipeg, Canada is known for a lot of things. A hand full of stereotypes. Many of them false. But, even a local news reporter admitted that the man-eating mosquitoes and harsh winters that make polar bears want to stay inside are real. Hey, if it's on the news it must be real right? Like seriously, who reports fake news? Oh...Where were we?  AURi discovered another reality of Winnipeg: young adult fantasy writer, C.E Dimond .  Thanks to her short bio and the FAQ on her website  we know that she's been writing since Grade 6 and that she's obsessed with revising everything that she writes. We also know that she's of Irish decent, but even without alcohol she admits that she often suffers from constipation of the brain and diarrhea of the mouth. (She's not alone.) This should be so much f un: AR: Our translator is not in the office today so please bear with us. (just kidding) But, since you're Canadian, explain what the following phrases mean to you: boo

Dana Fraedrich - Short and Sweet

Image
"Independent author, dog lover, and self-professed geek." That's nearly her entire bio on her website . Other than the fact she's a Virginia native that currently resides in Tennessee, Dana Fraedrich is a mystery. Yes, everything about her is short and sweet.  It took a little digging, but AURi  managed to find a few facts about this young adult fantasy author to support our "short and sweet" theory. Exhibit A :  In a picture feature on Where the Reader Grows  we noticed a picture of her standing nearly eye-level with Yoda while Darth towered over her. Short . Chandra, the inter view her described Dana as one of the sweetest people she has met on Instagram. Sweet .   Exhibit B : Okay, so there's no Exhibit B because we had to keep it short and sweet. But, we are certain that our theory will prove true.  Dana is no stranger to interviews. So, AURi had to turn up the heat: AR: We noticed that you play with your hair color. Do you imagine y

The Mysterious Becky Wright

Image
At first glace, you might mistaken Becky Wright  for the lovechild of John Astin and Caroyln Jones (actors from The Addams Family). AURi is here to dispel those rumors. However this Sudbury, England native is no stranger to creepy and uncanny.  “I was raised in a house of great imagination, being surrounded by books and storytelling. My mother was always reading, having a novel mid-chapter, with a library in our spare room; it’s now apparent she preferred fictional guests. My father was a great weaver of tales, giving life to characters from his youth and travels, whether true or not I savoured those stories, nurturing my imagination.”  - (excerpt from beckywrightauthor.com) As if lions, tigers, and bears are not interesting enough, the paranormal and the unexplained is what piqued Becky's interest. Perfecting her craft across many mediums of publication, the supernatural and historical fantasy writer eventually relaunched the first part of The Legacy Trilogy: Remember to Lov

The Author From Down Under

Image
With a name like Ellen Read , you would say this author from Townsville, Queensland, Australia was destined to be a writer...either that or a bookworm. In either case, none of that would indicate that she would have a love for photography; let alone be AMAZING at it!  AURi noticed her by chance as part of a tight-knit community on Instagram that she calls her "Insta-family". She features fellow writers in her "Insta-family" on her blog because, " with nearly every one of them, I have been a guest on their blog. It’s a case of authors supporting authors...We’ve become friends. We chat every day. We share interests other than writing. So I know them very well." Ellen Read fits the AURi brand because we also strive to discover, read, support, connect, and promote fellow artists. Enough about us, here's more Ellen.    AR: Explain to us what "Author Hop" is and how it came about. ER: Anna B Madrise, one of my Insta-family, c

Taylor Martin: singer/songwriter

Image
Kickin’ it Old School One of the things we here at AURi are most excited to get to do is to provide a bridge for disconnected and unexposed artists. I recently sat down with one such artist in Savannah, Georgia; singer/songwriter Taylor Martin. While it may be hard to imagine, Taylor is nowhere to be found on social media or the ‘inner-tube’ as he says laughing. If you’re lucky though, you might be able to catch him in a bar/restaurant downtown from time to time or playing someone’s backyard party around a fire. I’m grateful to have stumbled upon the latter.  AR: “So what came first, the singing or the songwriting?” TM: “Honestly, I can’t remember. I sang when I was a little kid, but it was at church and things like that. But I remember, I was 10 or 12 years old the first time I wrote a song and it was terrible…. but I did it. And I enjoyed it!” AR: “And you also play the guitar and the banjo… are you self-taught?” TM: “Yes. But it was just something that I did as

Christina Barker - Bold and Beautiful

Image
Some of the most respected artists of every genre of art are the ones that seem to break down boundaries and blur the lines of what is " normal ". Christina Barker is one of those artists. The Canadian writer dabbles in  poetry, short fiction, plays and screenplays and cites her works as being " shaped by spoken word and slam poetry, feminist texts, political satire and some good old Irish Catholic guilt . " She's releasing her first chapbook of poetry in Fall 2017 entitled Receipt Paper Poetry , but it's what she does outside of the literary world that impresses AURi : AR: The title of your blog, " Ink &Scratches ", is unique. What does it mean to you? CB: It has multiple meanings for me. “Ink” of course relates to writing, to language and being an instrument of the written word. “Scratches” comes from what I find myself doing often when writing. We scratch out what we don’t like, what doesn’t come out on paper how we feel it in
